The Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figure toy line was first released in 1988, and ran for several years as the cartoon and movie became hugely popular with children and adults alike. The action figures often came armed with a weapon and/or an accessory. In some cases, figures were re-released with a different design, and in later years during the height of Turtles-mania, a movie figure was released to coincide with the motion picture. Even though the comic was first released during 1984, it was not until late 1987 when the animated series was released. Playmates followed up with the release of this line in the summer of 88. The line officially came to an end in 1997, as Playmates' opted to end sales for this toy line due to plummeting sales. However, recently collectors have been snapping up these figures and prices have started to increase.
